Totally Techniques - Reverse Masking

Welcome to the April Totally Techniques Blog Hop!  I'm Lynsay Mahon, from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Each month our team showcases their creative talents, using a featured technique!  Today's technique was chosen by the talented Shannean and we were all challenged to try Reverse Masking.This is such a fun way to use masks.  I know this is a weird time of year to make a Christmas Card, but the mask I chose just made me think of winter!First, I used the Layering Ovals Dies and cut out an oval from a 4"x5.25" piece of cardstock.  I lined it up over another piece of Whisper White of the same size and used a sponge dauber to layer the Pool Party background.Next I layered the tree mask from the Basic Patterns Decorative Masks set over my first 2 layers, being careful not to shift the oval mask.

I used a Sponge Dauber to add Soft Suede ink over the tree:Next I inked the Birch Background stamp with Early Espresso Ink and stamped it over my layers of masks (again being careful to keep everything in line).  This created a fun birch look on my trees.Finally I used the Shimmery White Embossing Paste to add a touch of texture to the branches to make it look like snow.Here's the completed look with all of the layers:Since the magic of this card is in the masking, I kept the final embellishments very simple by adding a greeting and the card base layers:I hope you’ve enjoyed this interpretation of the Shaker Card technique!  The see the rest of our team’s projects, please click on the blue button below.
