SPRINKLES on Cards?!| A splatter embossing technique

This easy technique is a great way to create the look of “splatter” within an embossed image.

Hello my crafty friends! I'm Lynsay Mahon. I love to add techniques to projects that create a feeling of paper crafting magic.

Each week I share an episode I call “Why Did I Buy This?” - a tongue in cheek nod to my craft purchasing behaviour (can anyone relate?). My projects are solution focused, using different products to share the REAL reason you need them in your craft stash!

Cue the Sprinkles Embossing Technique…

I love heat embossing and there’s nothing that gets me more excited than a heat embossing technique! Especially one that comes out of a real world situation.

I was at the nail salon yesterday and of course, I always need a layer of glitter on my nails. The result made me so happy and it made me think, “I wonder if you could add sprinkles to your embossing projects.”

My nails were the inspiration for the Sprinkled Embossing Technique

Here’s what you need for Sprinkles Embossing:

  1. A Decorative Mask.I used the Lustrous Leaves Hot Foil Dies and Masks for this project.

  2. Ink and blending brushes to create your realistic leaf colour. I used Golden Glow and Peaceful Pine.

  3. Versamark Ink. This is a clear, sticky ink that will hold the embossing powder until heated.

  4. Clear and Black Embossing Powder. I used the Wow Neutrals Collection.

  5. A palette knife. Allows you control on how you sprinkle.

  6. A Heat Tool. This is how you melt the embossing powder into place.

Step-by-Step Instructions for Sprinkles Embossing Technique:

  1. Use the mask to lay down colour onto your cardstock using the blending brushes. I deliberately left some areas lighter and darker.

  2. With the same mask, apply Versamark over the image by applying the ink pad directly to the mask.

  3. Sprinkle Clear Embossing powder over the image and heat to set.

  4. Line up the mask again and apply Versamark a second time.

  5. Use a pallette knife to carefully sprinkle small amounts of black embossing powder over the image. Tap off any extra. Then coat the whole image in Clear Embossing Powder again. Heat to set.

Multiple colours will work with the sprinkles. I have tried silver, gold and copper with beautiful results!

The Sprinkle Embossing technique works well with any mask, clear embossing powder, and a darker powder like black.

Not only does the Sprinkle Embossing technique add splatter to your image, but so much texture and shine!

The texture from this technique is sure to give the WOW factor!

Give this technique a try and let me know what you think!

Warmly,
Lynsay
