I’m Lynsay Mahon from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and I absolutely love sharing techniques with all of you! It’s one of my favourite things about paper crafting. Imagine how excited I was to tackle the challenge of making a card from a single sheet of cardstock! Normally we approach card making with layer upon layer of paper, so to make a single sheet into a completed card, I needed to find a way to inspire layers in a different way.

Thankful Gardens Decorative Masks by Stampin’ Up!

My approach to the challenge of creating layers and texture was to use masks. Masks are such a great way to layer ink and the THANKFUL GARDEN DECORATIVE MASKS by Stampin’ Up! give opportunities to layer colours in 2 to 3 steps.

To create layers with ink, you’ll need 3 colours for the flower and 2 colours for the leaves. I used Fresh Freesia, Petunia Pop and Balmy Blue Classic Ink for the flower and Garden Green and Shaded Spruce Classic Ink for the leaves. You’ll also need Blending Brushes to to apply over the masks. It’s such a fun exercise to layer the colours.

To continue adding texture to a one layer card, I brought in one of my favourite new products: the Metallic Textured Rub-ons. These come in a set including multiple designs in both gold and silver and are so simple to apply.

Finally I added a little splatter by creating a custom colour of White Craft Ink and Fresh Freesia ink refill.

Watch this card come together in this video.
